Nexium Usage Instructions

It is important that this medication is used exactly as prescribed by the doctor to ensure safety and efficacy to the user. Nexium is recommended to be taken at least one hour before the meal. Patients are advised to swallow the capsule without breaking, crushing or chewing it. However, the granules in the capsule can be sprinkled on apple sauce and swallowed immediately without chewing.

The liquid suspension of Nexium can be prepared by mixing the contents of the packet with water. The mixture should be stirred well and allowed to rest for 2 to 3 minutes for it to thicken. The prepared mixture should be consumed immediately within 30 minutes of its preparation.

Nexium Dosages Instructions

Patients are instructed to follow the doctor's prescribed dosage. The dosage may vary depending upon the treatment for which it is being prescribed. Nexium dosages for different ailments are stated as below:

For the Treatment of GERD - The recommended adult dose of Nexium for the treatment of GERD is 20 mg or 40 mg taken once in a day for 4 to 8 weeks. The treatment can extend for more than 8 weeks in some cases. Children of 1 to 11 years of age are recommended a dose of 10 mg to 20 mg taken once in a day for up to 8 weeks.

Intestinal Ulcers - For the treatment of intestinal ulcers (caused by H. pylori) the recommended adult dose is 40 mg taken once in a day. Along with Nexium, 1,000 mg amoxicillin and 500 Mg clarithromycin should be taken twice in a day for the period of 10 days.

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome - The recommended adult dosage is 40 mg taken twice in a day.

Intestinal Ulcers - For the treatment of intestinal ulcers (caused by H. pylori) the recommended adult dose is 40 mg taken once in a day. Along with Nexium, 1,000 mg amoxicillin and 500 Mg clarithromycin should be taken twice in a day for the period of 10 days.

Missed and Overdose of Nexium

If a dose of Nexium is missed then it should be taken immediately. If it is almost time for the next dose, then one should skip the missed dose and resume with usual dosage schedule. Doubling the dose of the drug should not be done under any circumstances.

If anyone has overdosed on Nexium, then one should immediately contact their local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Overdose symptoms include confusion, blurred vision, extreme sweating or fast heartbeat.

Storage Instructions

Nexium must be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat to maintain its quality and efficacy. The ideal temperature to store this drug is between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). The drug should be kept out of the reach of children and pets. All the unused and expired drugs must be disposed properly.
