Geodon Usage Instructions
It is important to read the patient information leaflet or usage instructions given by the doctor in order to safely administer the drug. Patients using Geodon must follow the exact usage instructions in order to have maximum effect of the drug. Keep the following usage instructions in mind while taking Ziprasidone:
- This drug should be taken twice in a day.
- Geodon must be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
- It should be taken after meal to increase the chance of fast drug absorption in blood.
- The medication must be started at low dose and its dosage must be gradually increased to lessen side effects.
- Ziprasidone must not be suddenly stopped without consulting the doctor.
- The medication should be regularly consumed in order to have optimum effect.
Geodon Dosages
Geodon can be found in the strengths of 20 mg, 40 mg, 60 mg and 80 mg capsules. It is also available as 20 mg /5mL injection in the market. The initial dosage for Geodon is 20-40 mg twice a day. The targeted dose till the treatment gets over is 160 mg/day, taken in two parts. The physician decides the doses for each individual depending upon his age, medical history and response towards the intake of drugs. It is very important to visit doctor after taking first dose of Geodon to ensure that medicine is not causing any harm to the patients.
Missed and Overdose
There might be an instance where patients can miss a dose of Geodon. In this case patient must take it as soon as they remember. The missed dose can be skipped if the time for the next schedule dose has arrived. Patients are advised to avoid doubling the dose because it may result in dizziness and irregular heart rate.
Overdose of the drug should be avoided but in case if anyone has accidentally taken the overdose of the drug then the person should be provided with immediate medical help. Some of the overdose symptoms include extreme sedation, confusion, rapid and irregular heart rate, muscle rigidity, and seizures.
Storage Instructions
Geodon capsules must be kept at room temperature ranging between 59°-86°F or 15°-30°C. Medicines are always recommended to be kept at a cool place away from heat and humidity. The drug should also be kept away from children and pets.
