Nexium
Nexium is a proton-pump inhibitor used for the treatment of gastro-esophageal reflux disease, duodenal ulcer and erosive esophagitis. Nexium Composition and Ingredients
The active ingredient present in Nexium is esomeprazole magnesium and the inactive ingredients include hydroxypropyl cellulose, glyceryl monostearate, magnesium stearate, methacrylic acid copolymer, hypromellose, sugar spheres, paraffin hard, macrogol 6000 purified talc, crospovidone, triethyl citrate, gelatin, titanium dioxide, shellac, ethyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, propylene glycol, polysorbate 80, and iron oxide yellow.
How Nexium Works
Gastric acid is composed of powerful chemicals which can damage the delicate membranes of esophagus. If the gastro-esophageal reflux disease remains untreated, it can damage the tissue in the esophageal lining resulting in erosive esophagitis. Nexium is used for the treatment of GERD and is also used for treating gastrointestinal ulcers in patients suffering from Crohn's disease.
Nexium belongs to a proton-pump inhibitor class of drugs. Its purpose is to decrease the amount of acid produced in the stomach without interfering with the normal digestion process. Proton pumps are found on cells that line the stomach and are used by the cells to produce stomach acid. Esomeprazole works by inhibiting the action of the proton pumps to reduce the production of stomach acid, thus reducing acid flowing back into the food pipe.
