Celebrex Usage Instructions

Patients prescribed with Celebrex are advised to use the drug exactly in the manner in which it is recommended by the doctor. Directions for use are either advised by the doctor or it is given in the medicine leaflet. Patients must follow these usage instructions to have best effect of the drug. Some of the usage instructions are:

  • Patients must take the drug dosage as directed by their doctor. One should never alter the dosage without consulting the doctor.
  • Celebrex can be taken with or without food. However, if any patient experience stomach problem while taking this drug on empty stomach then the patients should take it with food or milk.
  • Patients must take the dose at the same time every day.
  • Patients prescribed with Celebrex for long term use need to regularly visit the doctor for getting their blood tested.
  • The content of the Celebrex capsule can be mixed with applesauce to make swallowing easier for the patients.

Celebrex Dosage

Patients should begin therapy as soon as it is recommended by their doctor. This is important because the medication will require some time to act to reduce inflammation and pain. Doctors determine the dose based upon the patient’s age, medical condition for which they are treated, other medications taken by them and the severity of the problem. It is highly recommended that all patients take the smallest most effective dose to diminish the risk of side effects.

Celebrex dosages for the treatment of different problems are stated below:

Osteoarthritis - The recommended dose of Celecoxib for the management of osteoarthritis is 100 mg of drug taken twice in a day or 200 mg of drug taken as a single dose.

Rheumatoid arthritis - The usual recommended dose of the drug Celebrex for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis is either100mg or 200 mg of drug taken twice in a day.

Ankylosing Spondylitis - The recommended dose of Celebrex for the management of the signs and symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis is 200 mg of drug taken daily in a single dose or divided in two doses.

Acute pain or menstrual cramps - Recommended dose of the drug for treating acute pain or menstrual cramps is 400 mg as a single dose on the first day that can be followed by an additional 200 mg of drug if required.

Celebrex Missed and Overdose

It is quite likely for a patient to miss a dose of the drug Celecoxib. In case if a patient has missed a dose of the drug, then patient should take it as soon as they remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, then the patient should skip the missed dose and resume with their normal dose. One should not take extra medicine to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose of the drug can cause adverse health complications, therefore patients are strictly advised to avoid taking overdose of the drug. In case if overdose has accidentally occurred then the victims must be provided with emergency medical help. One can also consult to their local poison help line for the necessary advice. Some of the overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, stomach pain, fainting etc.

Celebrex Storage Instructions

Celebrex must be ideally stored at room temperature 15-30 degrees centigrade and must be kept away from direct light and heat. It should also be kept out of the reach of children and pets. Unused and expired medications must be safely disposed and it should not be flush down the toilet or poured into the drain.
