The active ingredient present in Celebrex is Celecoxib, which is an NSAID. The inactive ingredients present in Celebrex are croscarmellose sodium, edible inks, gelatin, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, povidone and sodium lauryl sulfate.
How Celecoxib Works?
Celecoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to COX-2 inhibitors class of drugs. This drug works by blocking cyclo-oxygenase-2 enzyme that causes pain and inflammation in the body. There are two different types of cyclo-oxygenase, COX-1 and COX-2 enzyme present in the body. COX-1 produces prostaglandins that are useful for the body and are responsible for maintaining healthy stomach and intestinal lining. Prostaglandins produced by COX-2 in response to injury or certain disease causes pain, swelling and inflammation. Thus, by inhibiting the action of COX-2 Celecoxib relieve the symptoms of pain, swelling and inflammation caused in response to the injury.
