Diovan Usage Instructions

Patients prescribed with Diovan must follow the exact usage instructions as given by their doctor or provided in their medication leaflet. To achieve the best therapeutic outcome, it is important to take the medication in the right manner. It is important to be mindful of the following directions and precautions:

  • Diovan is either prescribed once in a day or twice in a day. So the patients must take the dosage as prescribed to them by their doctor.
  • This drug can be taken with or without food.
  • One should take the drug at the same time each day.
  • The drug should be swallowed whole with a glass full of water.
  • This drug is prescribed for controlling high blood pressure symptoms and thus, patients must take it for the prescribed time frame. Patients should never suddenly stop taking the medication.

Diovan Dosage

Dosages of Valsartan are prescribed by the doctor depending upon several factors like age of the patients, other medicines taken by them, their medical conditions and the severity of the problem. Diovan dosages for the treatment of different problems are:

Hypertension or High blood pressure – Usual recommended dosage for the treatment of hypertension in adult range between 80 to 160 mg of drug in a day. The maximum dose of the drug should not exceed to 320 mg in a day.

Heart Failure – The recommended dose of Diovan for preventing heart failure in adult patients is 40 mg of drug taken twice in a day. The maximum dose of the drug for this problem is 160 mg of drug in a day.

Post-myocardial infarction – Diovan may be started after 12 hours of the heart attack. The recommended dose of Diovan in this condition is 20 mg of drug taken twice in a day. The dose ranges between 20- 160 mg of drug taken twice in a day.

Children who are being treated for hypertension are recommended a dose ranging between 1.3-2.7 mg of drug in a day.

Missed and Overdose

It is significant for the patients to take the proper dose of the drug on the regular basis. If a patient has missed a dose of the drug then the person should take it immediately upon remembering. If the time for next schedule dose has arrived then patients should skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule.

Patients are advised to be careful in not overdosing on Diovan as it can cause serious health problems. In case if overdose has occurred, the victim must be immediately provided with emergency medical attention. Diovan Storage Instructions

Diovan should be ideally stored at room temperature and must be protected from excessive heat and moisture. The drug should be kept away from children and pets. All the unused and expired medications must be safely disposed.
