How Diovan HCT Works?
Diovan HCT, a combination of two medicines Diovan and hydrochlorothiazide, helps in reducing high blood pressure in two ways. Diovan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker that blocks angiotensin II receptors. By blocking the receptors, effectiveness of the chemical angiotensin II is decreased. This chemical usually narrows the blood vessels that lead to high blood pressure. Therefore, by blocking the effect of the chemical angiotensin II, Diovan HCT causes blood vessels to relax thereby reducing the blood pressure.
The presence of the other drug Hydrochlorothiazide, commonly referred as a water pill, also helps in reducing the pressure. It works by increasing the amount of salt and water removed by the kidneys from the blood. The extra amount of salt and water extracted from the blood is eliminated from the body through the urine.
