Levaquin Usage Instructions

Patients are advised to follow the usage instructions given by their doctor or given in the leaflet of the drug. This will ensure optimum result from the drug. Following usage instructions must be kept in mind while taking Levaquin:

  • Levaquin should be consumed with a glass full of water
  • One should not alter the drug dosage without discussing with the doctor
  • Levaquin can be taken with or without food
  • Levaquin should be taken at least one hour before or two hours after the meal.
  • Levaquin should be taken at the same time each day

Levaquin Dosage Instructions

The dose of Levaquin are determined by the doctor depending upon the patient’s age, weight, type of bacterial infection, other medical conditions of the patient or any other medication taken by them. Patients are advised to follow the doctor’s prescribed dosage in order to have best effect from the drug. Levaquin dosages for different type of bacterial infections are as follows:

  • Adult patients suffering from chronic bronchitis, prostate or skin infections are prescribed with 500 mg of drug taken once in a day. The treatment duration for every patient is determined depending upon the severity of the infection.
  • Patients suffering from pneumonia or sinus infections are prescribed between 500 mg to 750 mg of Levaquin taken in a day.
  • Urinary tract infection patients are recommended a dose of 250 mg of drug taken once in a day for the period of three days.

Missed Dose and Overdose of Drug

There are chances that patients might miss a dose of the drug. The missed dose of the drug can be taken upon remembering and if it is the time for the next schedule dose then patients should skip the missed dose and continue with their regular dosing schedule. Doubling the dose of the drug can pose adverse health complications, thus patients should avoid it.

Overdose of the drug should be avoided as it can pose serious risks to the patient’s health. If anyone has accidentally taken the overdose of the drug then the victim should be provided with emergency medical help or can call at local poison help line centre.

Storage Instructions

Patients should properly store the drug to maintain its quality and efficacy till the very end. It is best to store the drug at room temperature. The drug should be protected from direct sunlight, heat and excessive moisture. It should be kept away from the reach of children and pets and all the unused and expired drugs should be safely disposed.
