Levofloxacin Mechanism
Levaquin belongs to fluoroquinolones class of antibiotics that fight bacterial infections in the body by preventing the production of essential proteins that are required by the bacteria to survive. This drug works by interfering with two vital bacterial enzymes called DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV that are essential for the bacteria to repair DNA. Thus, by preventing the production of these proteins it stops the bacteria growth in the body. According to the clinical studies, Levaquin is the most powerful germ-killing antibiotic currently available in the market.
