Tricor
Tricor is a drug that belongs to fibrate class of drug. It is primarily used to reduce cholesterol level in the patients suffering from cardiovascular disease. This drug reduces both low-density lipoprotein (LDL), very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels and increases high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels. This drug can either be used alone or in conjunction with low-fat diet, regular exercising and other complimentary medications in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia. Tricor was developed by Groupe Fournier SA and later on acquired by Solvay Pharmaceutical. This drug is approved by the majority of the drug regulatory authorities.

Tricor Composition
Active ingredient present in Tricor is Fenofibrate and the inactive ingredients include sodium lauryl sulfate, hypromellose, sucrose, lactose monohydrate, crospovidone, magnesium stearate, docusate sodium and silicified microcrystalline cellulose.
Tricor Mechanism
There are two types of cholesterol in the human body, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) which is not good for heath and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) which is good for the health. LDL deposits lead to clogging and narrowing of the arteries which increases the risk of heart disease. HDL protects the arteries against the LDL. Fenofibrate, a lipid lowering agent, works by stimulating the enzyme action that breaks down LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. This increases HDL level in the blood which is good for a healthy heart.
