Side Effects Vytorin

Vytorin like any other cholesterol lowering drug may cause few side effects to the patients. However, most of the common side effects reported with this drug are quite normal and these symptoms disappear after the regular usage of the drug.

Common side effects reported with Vytorin include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Cold or sore throat

Taking Vytorin along with certain medicines or substances may create some serious medical issues. Therefore, patients should inform healthcare professional about all the prescription, non-prescription, herbal and vital supplements which they are administering. Following medications are known to interact with Vytorin:

  • Anti-fungal medicines like Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Posaconazole, Voriconazole
  • HIV protease inhibitors such as Indinavir, Nelfinavir, Ritonavir, Saquinavir, Tipranavir, Atazanavir
  • Hepatitis C virus protease inhibitors like Boceprevir, Telaprevir
  • Antibiotics like Erythromycin, Clarithromycin and Telithromycin
  • Nefazodone
  • Gemfibrozil
  • Cyclosporine
  • Danazol
  • Fibric acid derivatives
  • Amiodarone or Dronedarone
  • Verapamil, Diltiazem, Amlodipine, or Ranolazine
  • Grapefruit juice
  • Colchicine
  • Niacin or Nicotinic acid

Warnings Use of Vytorin

  • Patients are advised to avoid the use of the Vytorin, if they are allergic to Ezetimibe, Simvastatin or any other ingredients of the drug.
  • Vytorin should not be taken by individuals having active liver disease or who have failed their liver function tests.
  • Daily use of alcohol while taking Vytorin may increase the risk of liver problems.
  • Before taking Vytorin, pregnant women or women who are planning pregnancy must inform their doctor because this medicine may prove fatal for unborn baby.
  • Lactating mothers are also advised to avoid this drug because it may pass into the breast milk and cause problem for baby.
