Advair Usage Instructions
Patients prescribed with Advair are advised to follow the doctor's usage instruction in order to maximize the therapeutic effect of the medication.
- The dose is calculated by the doctor based on patient's medical condition, age and response to the treatment. Patients should never increase or decrease the dose without consulting with the doctor.
- Patients should gargle and rinse their mouth with water after each use of the drug to prevent mouth infection.
- Users should not take the inhaler apart and must not wash any part of the device.
- The usual two dose of oral inhalation in a day must be administered in an interval of 12 hours.
- Users should shake the inhaler well for minimum 5 seconds before using the spray.
- Users should not suddenly stop the intake of the medication.
Dosages
The recommended adult dosage of Advair for the maintenance treatment of asthma and COPD is one inhalation taken two times in a day. The two doses of the drug should be taken in an interval of 12 hours. Advair 250/50 mcg taken twice in a day is the only approved dosage for the treatment of COPD.
Missed and over dosage
In case of a missed dose of Advair, patients can take it as soon as they remember it. It is suggested to skip the missed dosage if it is almost the time of next scheduled dosage. Never take extra medicine to make up for the missed dosage.
If anyone has overdosed on the drug, then one should seek medical attention immediately. Overdose symptoms include chest pain, shakiness, increased heart rate, worsening of shortness of breath, etc.
Storage
Advair should be stored at room temperature between 20°C to 25° C. One should store the drug in a cool, dry place and must keep it away from sunlight and heat. It should be kept out of the reach of children and pets. The inhalation device is not reusable so patients must safely discard it either after 1 month of opening the drug or when the dosage indicator shows "0", whichever occurs first.
