Diovan HCT Side-effects

All medicines have side-effects. This is same for the drug Diovan HCT also. Some of the common side-effects of the drug are:

Drug Interactions of Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide

There are certain drugs that may interact with Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Thus, patients are advised that if they are taking any prescription, non-prescription, herbal or vitamin supplements, they should disclose them to their doctor. Some of the medications that might interact with this drug are:

  • Aliskiren or aliskiren combination medications
  • ACE inhibitors like benazepril, captopril, fosinopril, etc.
  • Barbiturates like amobarbital, primidone, thiopental, etc.
  • Corticosteroids like hydrocortisone, methylprednisolone, etc.
  • Lithium
  • Narcotics like morphine, oxycodone, NSAIDs like etodolac, ibuprofen, etc.
  • Diabetic medications
  • Blood pressure medications

Important Warnings and Precautions of Diovan HCT

The drug is not recommended to everybody because there are certain medical conditions that are considered contraindicated while being on Diovan HCT. Similarly, if patients are suffering from some of the medical conditions, it is vital to take Diovan HCT only after a doctor’s recommendation. Patients suffering from any of the following problems should consult the doctor prior taking Diovan HCT:

  • History of angioedema
  • Asthma
  • Liver disease
  • Lupus
  • Heart problems
  • Kidney problems
  • Gallbladder or gallstones problems
  • Fluid or electrolyte problems
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Have undergone dialysis recently and had certain kind of nerve injury
  • Take alcohol or low salt diet

Taking Diovan HCT is strictly prohibited if patients are:

  • Allergic to any of its ingredient
  • Pregnant or breast-feeding
  • Unable to urinate
  • Taking aliskiren and suffering from either kidney problems or diabetes
  • Taking ketanserin or dofetilide
