Lovenox

Lovenox composition

Enoxaparin Sodium is the active ingredient present in Lovenox, whereas inactive ingredients present in the drug include benzyl alcohol and water in the multiple dose pre-filled syringes and water in the single dose pre-filled syringe.

How Does Enoxaparin Works

Lovenox injection is a low molecular weight heparin that prevents blood clot formation within the blood vessels. Sometimes it is discovered that blood clot abnormally form within the blood vessels. It can prove dangerous because the clot may travel in the bloodstream to become an embolus. Embolus may get lodged in blood vessel and may block supply of the blood to vital organs like heart, brain or lungs. Thus, Enoxaparin is prescribed to prevent blood clots and it works by inactivating thrombin in the clotting process. This also prevents formation of fibrin which is an essential component of blood clots. By reducing the amount of clotting factors in blood, Lovenox prevents blood clot formation.
