Side Effects of Lovenox

Patients prescribed with Lovenox should be aware of side effects associated with the drug. It is not necessary that every individual taking the drug will experience side effects. Common side effects associated with Lovenox are quite normal and do not require any medical intervention. These side effects usually disappear after the patients get adjusted to the drug. Severe Side Effects

  • Unusual bleeding from nose, mouth, vagina, rectum, etc. Bleeding from wounds that are unstoppable.
  • Appearance of purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin
  • Pale skin
  • Unusual heartbeat
  • Trouble in concentration
  • Bloody or black stools
  • Coughing up blood or vomit
  • Muscle weakness
  • Numbness or tingling feeling
  • Loss of movement in certain body part
  • Sudden weakness
  • Severe headache
  • Problems with vision, speech, balance, etc.
  • Trouble in breathing

Drug Interactions

It is important for the patients to inform doctor about all prescription, non-prescription, and herbal medications taken by them. It is advised because certain drugs are known to interact with Lovenox that can either increase the risk of bleeding or the risk of developing blood clots around spinal cord or brain. Some of the drugs that may interact with Lovenox include:

  • Acetylsalicylic acid (ASA)
  • Non-steroid anti-inflammatory
  • Prednisolone
  • Dextran, Clopidogrel, Ticlopidine, vitamin K antagonists and Dipyridamole.
  • Anagrelide, cilostazol, Clopidogrel, Eltrombopag, operlvekin, prasugrel, ticagrelor and romiplostim
  • Fondaparinux, tinzaparin, rivaroxaban, heparin, warfarin
  • Alteplase, reteplase, tenecteplase, urokinase

Warning use of Lovenox

Patients are advised to use the drug under the doctor’s supervision. This is important because there are important precautions and warnings associated with the drugs that need to be conveyed to the patients. This will also help patients to safely take the drug without posing further health complications. Some of the warnings and important precautions associated with Lovenox include:

  • Patients allergic with any of the ingredient of Lovenox should not take this drug. For instance, if one is allergic to heparin or benzyl alcohol then one should not take the drug unless it is recommended by doctor.
  • Individuals taking this drug should have their regular blood test done in order to monitor the platelets count in the blood.
  • The level of potassium should be monitored in the patients taking Lovenox, especially if the treatment lasts for more than 7 days.
  • Patients having diabetes, uncontrolled high blood pressure, low body weight, bacterial infection should take this drug only if it is recommended by the doctor.
  • It is believed that administration of the drug by pregnant women may cause harm to their fetus. So, they must avoid using this drug.
  • Individuals having history of bleeding problems should not take the drug unless it is suggested by the doctors.

  • Spinal defect
  • Eye problems due to hemorrhage or diabetes
