Side Effects of Nasonex
Patients taking Nasonex may experience some of its side-effects. Common side-effects are mild in nature and go away with regular use of the drug. These side effects do not require immediate medical intervention. Some of the common side-effects of the drug are:
- Headache
- Sore throat, cough, stuffy nose
- Joint or muscle pain
- Sneezing
- Irritation or burning inside the nose
There are certain serious side-effects of the drug which need immediate medical attention. Some of the serious side-effects are:
- Vision problems
- Wheezing or trouble in breathing
- Sores in nose that won’t heal
- Vision problems
- Allergic reactions like hives, swelling in tongue or throat
- Fever, chills, body aches
Drug Interactions of Mometasone Nasal
It is believed that Mometasone does not interact with other medicines when administered into nose as nasal spray. However, it is suggested that if patients are taking any prescription, non-prescription, herbal or vitamin supplements, it is necessary to consult with a doctor. Before taking any other medicines that contain corticosteroids, it is recommended for the patient to discuss it with a doctor.
Important warning and precautions
There are certain important precautions and warning which a patient should be made aware of while taking this drug. Some of those precautions are:
- The medicine is intended for use in nose only and thus, it should not be taken by mouth.
- Avoid getting spray in your eyes
- Plastic nozzle of the nasal spray must be cleaned at least once every week.
Consultation with doctor is a must before taking this drug if patients are suffering from any of the following medical condition:
- Infection in nasal passages or sinuses
- Recent injury or surgery to nose
- People with tuberculosis affecting lungs
- Glaucoma or cataracts
- Herpes simplex virus of eyes
Using Nasonex is strictly not recommended in those patients who are allergic to its active or inactive ingredients. The medicine is also not recommended for:
- Treating allergies in children, who are under 6 years of age.
- For treating nasal polyps in children below 18 years of age.
- If patient is pregnant or breast-feeding.
