Usage Instructions of Flovent
Patients prescribed with Flovent must use the drug exactly as instructed by the doctor to have the best effect of the drug. Some important directions that must be followed by the patients include:
- Use the drug exactly as prescribed by doctor
- Never increase or decrease its dosage without his consultation
- Do not stop taking the drug or take longer than recommended
- After using Flovent, rinse mouth with water thoroughly to avoid any yeast infection in mouth. Do not swallow the powder form.
Flovent Dosages
The dosages of the drug are determined by the doctor depending upon the patient’s age, medical conditions and severity of the problem.
The dosage of the drug recommended to children lying in the age group of 4-11 years is:
- Two inhalations of 44mcg Flovent HFA taken twice on daily basis.
- For Flovent Diskus, the recommended initial dosage is 50mcg twice a day. This can be increased to 100mcg, two inhalations taken twice a day.
For adults and adolescents 12 years and above
In adults, the recommended dosage varies depending upon what medications the patient had previously taken or are taking.
- Those patients, who are taking bronchodilators, the initial dose recommended is Flovent HFA 44mcg two times in a day. The maximum dosage recommended in such situation is 220 mcg twice daily.
- Two inhalations of 220 mcg twice on daily basis is recommended as initial dosage of Flovent HFA in those patients who are taking oral steroid. Maximum dosage is recommended four inhalations of Flovent HFA 220 mcg twice on daily basis.
- In case patients are taking inhaled steroid, the starting dosage is recommended as two inhalations of 44mcg or 110 mcg take twice on daily basis. The maximum dosage is recommended two inhalations of 220 mcg twice on daily basis.
Flovent Missed and Over Dosage
In case of missed dosage, patients are advised to take drug as soon as possible. However, if it is almost the time to take next dosage, skip the missed dosage and resume with normal dosing schedule. Do not take more than recommended dosage in a day to compensate for the missed dosage.
In case of over dosage, it is important to seek medical help on immediately.
Flovent Storage
Store the drug at room temperature at cool and dry place. Keep the drug away from direct sunlight and heat. Moreover, keep it out of reach of children and pets.
