Singulair Usage Instructions
Patients are advised to follow all important usage instructions as given by doctor. They should not increase or decrease the dosage strength without consulting with doctors. Some of the usage instructions that are important for patients to follow are:
- Swallow tablet as a whole with a glass of water
- The chewable tablet needs to be chewed properly before it is swallowed.
- The oral granules should be mixed with spoonful of applesauce, rice, mashed carrots, ice cream or one teaspoon of baby formula or breast milk and swallowed by mouth.
- If patients are taking oral granules they should consume within 15 minutes or opening or mixing it.
- In case, patients experience improvement in symptoms, they should not stop taking the medication unless doctor recommend for the same.
- The drug should be taken at the same time every day.
Singulair Dosage Instructions
Doctor evaluate factors such as age of patients, other medical conditions, and other medications they are taking to determine the appropriate individual dose for their patient.
The recommended dosages for asthma are:
- In adults and children 15 years and above is 10mg of tablet taken once in a day.
- For children lying in the age bracket of 6-14 years old, the recommended dosage is 5mg of tablet taken one in a day.
- For children ages 2-5 years old, the recommended dosage is one tablet of 4 mg taken on daily basis. The tablet can be taken in chewable form or oral granules.
- For children of 12-23 months old, the recommended dosage is one packet of oral granules taken on daily basis.
For exercise-induced Bronchoconstriction, the recommended dosages are:
- Adults and children above the 15 years of age are recommended with 10 mg of tablet taken once in a day, which should be taken two hours before doing exercise.
- For children 6-14 years of age, the recommended dosage is 5 mg of chewable tablet taken two hours before the exercise.
For allergies, the recommended dosages are:
- In adults and children above the 15 years of age, the recommended dose is 10 mg of tablet taken on daily basis.
- For children of 6-14 years old, the recommended dosage is 5mg tablet taken daily.
- For children 2-5 years old, 4mg tablet is recommended. The tablet should be taken either in chewable form or in oral granules.
Singulair Missed and Over Dosage
In case of missed dose, patients can take it as soon as they remember it. However, if it is the time to take next dosage, they should skip the missed dosage and resume with normal dosing schedule. Never take more than one tablet in a day to make up for the missed dosage.
If patients have taken an overdose, they are advised to seek medical attention on immediately.
Storage
Singulair tablet must be stored at ideal room temperature i.e.in 25-30 degree Celsius. It should be kept away from heat, light and moisture. Keep it away from reach of children and pets. Unused and expired drugs should be safely disposed.
